Netanya is a town in the Sharon plain in central Israel. It was is known as "The Capital of the Sharon" for being the biggest city in the Sharon area, and as "The Diamond City" because of the advanced diamond industry that existed in the city, and still does. The city has a long coastline and some of the best beaches in Israel, with high cliffs and yellow sand. it has a population of approximately 174,000, mostly Jewish. Netanya was first established in 1928, when a small group of people dug the first well in the area. In the following years many Jewish immigrants inhabited the settlement and in 1932 it was an official village. As the place grew and residents from other Israeli settlements moved in Netanya becmae a town in 1948. It is the first Jewish city to be declared a town in Israel. Netanya real estate is varied from tall residential buildings to private houses and villas, luxury apartments and leading companies headquarters. There are many neighborhoods in Netanya, each one unique. Here are some of the neighborhoods: Galey Hayam (Sea Waves) is a rather new neighborhood that stands on the cliff on the south part of Neyanya. The Neot Ganim quarters, on the east side of Netanya, consists of private houses. It is one of the first neighborhoods in Netanya, and it stands where once was an immigrants (Olim) temporary residents. On the south side of the neighborhood is the Netanya Cemetery. Also there are two elementary schools and a high-school Yeshiva of Benei-Akiva. Neot Shaked, previously known as "Ezorim" was established in the 1960's and first inhabited by Jewish immigrants from Morocco and the Soviet Union. Nof Hatayelet (The promenade view) is a new neighborhood, built in the 2000's, at the promenade on the cliff. It includes a paragliding site and stands close to the Carmel hotel on the cliff. A large part of the neighborhood is still under construction and many apartments and private houses are to be populated. The Saphir Park for Business and Technology is a large park on the south east side of Netanya. It is one of the leading areas for business and industry in Israel and is mainly devoted to high-tech and communication oriented companies. The park includes Netanya's city hall, two academic colleges, high-tech companies such as Check-Point, Cisco, HP and more, and other leading Israeli companies such as Cellcom and Teva. The district also includes lively trade centers and the Ikea Israeli branch. Kiriat Hasharon was constructed on 1999 and five years later was announce "a soaring neighborhood" in an article in the leading Israel real estate magazine "The Marker" thanks to the rise in the price of the apartments who has gone up some 20%-30% in the previous two years. Kiryat Sanz is an orthodox Jewish neighborhood which is the center of the Sanz-Hasidism in the world. It stands on the north west end of Netanya and has 1,000 families. Many organizations and institutes were established in the community, including a Torrah school, a Yeshiva for children, a Yeshiva for teenagers, five synagauges, a mikve, a cemetery, a hotel and the Laniado Hospital. Ramat Poleg is the most southern neighborhood in Netanya. It stands close to the Poleg Steram Reservationn and has two parts – old Ramat Poleg consists mainly of old Villas and new Ramat Poleg consists of tall residential buildings as well as Villas and Cottage houses. The west part of the neighborhood, which is located closer to the beach, is currently under elaborated construction and is being populated these days. There are two elementary schools in Ramat poleg, as well as a shopping and trade center, and in the old part a country-club.
In 2007 netanya was chosen to be the sports capital of Israel. There are three soccer teams, one women's basketball team and one men's basketball tem. Also the city is active in Tennis, Fencing, boxing, wresling, karate, judo, beach soccer, bowling, karting, paragling, surfing and more!
